REGION CHAMPS AGAIN!
Lady Cavs finish 30-2
State Runnerup

The Lady Cavs finished the season with a record of 30-2. Along the way they won the Beach District regular season and tournament championship, and won a record 10th Eastern Region championship by beating Lake Taylor 55-48. They finished as state runnerup, losing the rematch to their nemesis Lake Taylor 56-53 in the final, but set a state record with their 5th consecutive state championship game appearance. With only one senior starter, two freshman and two juniors, the ladies were unranked in Tidewater and picked to finish only 2nd in the Beach in the Pilot's preseason preview. They exceeded all expectations this season in what may be the finest coaching job in Darnell Dozier's career. .

About the Lady Cavs

The Princess Anne High School girl's basketball program has been one of the most successful in Virginia and the nation over the past 18 seasons. The team has won 16 Beach regular season and/or tournament championships during this time, plus 10 Eastern Region Championships (a record), four State Championships, and five consecutive state championship games (a record). Coach Darnell Dozier has a 469-43, 18-year record through 2013. This is an incredible 92% winning percentage.

Past Seasons

2013: State Runnerup --The Lady Cavs finished the season with a record of 30-2. 2012: State Runnerup --The Lady Cavs appeared in the state championship game for the 4th consecutive year. They lost in the final to Oakton to finish the season as state runnerup with a record of 27-4. Along the way they finished 2nd behind Salem in the Beach District during the regular season. They avenged a one point loss in the regular season to Salem by beating them 72-44 in the Beach District Tournament final. They were also runner up in the Eastern Region Tournament. Galaisha Goodhope was named Tidewater Player of the Year and was also first team All - Eastern Region. She will be going to ODU. Other Division I scholarship signees are Aisha Foy, and Bria Powell.

2011: State Champs --The team won their 4th state championship in 10 years by defeating Stonewall Jackson 65-39. The game was never in doubt as the ladies ran off 19 unanswered points to start the game. PA finished their dream season at 31-1. Their only loss was without All-American Elizabeth Williams. Elizabeth Williams was named, State Player of the Year and Parade All American, 1st Team, and Coach Darnell Dozier was named State AAA Coach of the Year for the 4th time.

2010: State Runnerup -- The team finished 29-2 losing only to Lake Taylor by 3 points in December and the State final by 6. They gave Lake Taylor their only loss of the season in the Eastern Region championship game winning by 10. PA Junior Elizabeth Williams was named a Parade Magazine 1st Team High School All American on March 28, 2010 and Gatorade Virginia Girl's Basketball Player of the Year on March 11, 2010. 2009: State Champs --The Lady Cavs finished 31-1 winning their third state championship in 8 seasons. They were undefeated against Virginia schools, as their only loss was by 3 points in a Christmas tournament to nationally ranked East Mecklenburg from Charlotte, NC.

2008: State Final Four -- The team won 28 in a row and was ranked #1 in the state for most of the year. The ladies lost in the Eastern Region final to Heritage and again in the State Semifinal to Forest Park to finish at 29-2.

2007: Region Final Four -- The nationally ranked team finished 26-2, losing in the semifinals of the Eastern Region Tournament after All American Kim Rodgers broke her ring finger in the finals of the Beach District Tournament.

2006: State Final Four -- After being nationally ranked most of the season, and defending their Eastern Region title, the ladies fell short in their bid for a second straight state title. They fell to Edison in the state semis to end their year at 29-2.

2005: State Champs -- The Lady Cavs came from 15 points down near the end of the third quarter to defeat the defending state champs, Forest Park 59-52. Forest Park was the last team to beat PA, 37-34, in the finals of the Christmas tournament. After a 7-3 start, the ladies ripped off 21 wins in a row to finish 28-3.

2002: State Champs -- With a senior dominated team featuring the Mason twins who went on to play for Longwood College, PA won the State Championship finishing with a perfect record of 29-0.

Elizabeth Williams - 2011 High School Parade All American is now a Sophomore at Duke. She was named a Pre-Season 2nd Team All American. In her Freshman year she was named 1st Team All ACC, only the third freshman in league history to accomplish this. On February 29, she was named ACC Rookie of the Year. On March 8, 2012 she was named one of 15 finalists for the Wooden Award for National Player of the Year.
