The boys varsity basketball team had the finest season in Princess Anne High School history, finishing 26-3. They won the Beach District regular season championship, the Eastern Region Tournament and closed out the season with a state championship.

In the "State Final Four" held at Scope in Norfolk, the Cavs advanced to the final by defeating R. E. Lee 74-66 on March 11, 1999. They came from 11 points down in the first half against a hot shooting team to win by 8. The Cavs outscored Lee 14-2 in the final 4 minutes to advance to the Championship game.

In the championship game the situation almost reversed itself against South Lakes. PA led by 11 at the half and 22 at the end of 3 quarters.
South Lakes refused to cave in. In a furious 4th quarter charge they had a chance to win. Down by 2 South Lakes missed a 3 pointer with 3 seconds left. Season high scorer Daryl Towe. was fouled on the rebound, sank 1 of 2 and the Cavaliers were State Champs.
