NHS

Princess Anne High School’s National Honor Society
The National Honor Society is a leader among organizations and societies that promote appropriate recognition for students who reflect outstanding accomplishments in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

Selection Criteria
The NHS national constitution provides guidelines for selecting members. The selection procedure is determined by the NHS Faculty Council. The NHS Faculty Council is made up of five faculty members, appointed by the principal. This council determines and monitors eligibility. Selection is based on four criteria: scholarship, service, leadership, and character.

Scholarship: Students must be in the 10th, 11th, or 12th grade. They must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher, and have completed, or be currently enrolled in five of the following courses:

  • Honors English 9, 10, 11, 12
  • Foreign Language 3, 4, 5 or 1, 2 of Second Foreign Language
  • Chemistry
  • Physics
  • Algebra 2 and Trigonometry or Algebra 2-Trigonometry
  • Any AP/IB Course
  • Math Analysis

Service: This quality is defined through the numerous voluntary contributions made by the student to the school or community, done without compensation and with a positive, courteous, and enthusiastic spirit.

Leadership: Student leaders are those who are resourceful, good problem solvers, promoters of school activities, idea-contributors, dependable, and persons who exemplify positive attitudes about life. Leadership experiences can be drawn from school or community activities while working with or for others.

Character: The student of good character upholds principles of morality and ethics, is cooperative, demonstrates high standards of honesty and reliability, and shows courtesy, concern, and respect for others. Students with honor code violations will not be admitted into the organization.

Induction of Members
Induction of new members into the National Honor Society will be held at the end of each school year. The induction ceremony will be conducted by the officers and members of the organization. Seniors who qualify for induction will have membership bestowed upon them in December
