Crime Solvers

What Is  Student Crime Solvers?
The student crime solver programs in Virginia Beach City Public Schools were established in 1993 to provide a mechanism for motivating student involvement in reducing and preventing crime and violence within our school division. Each high school within the Virginia Beach City School Division has developed
a student program as a joint, self-sustaining, cooperative alliance with the Virginia Beach City Crime Solvers, the community and local news media.

Purpose?
The general purpose of this program is to receive, screen and promote student reports of unlawful acts committed in school buildings or on school grounds. These acts might include, but not to be limited to, illegal use and sale of drugs and alcohol, vandalism to school property, theft, burglaries or assaults.
The student crime solver programs exist to encourage the anonymous reporting of such unlawful acts
that can be vital in assisting law-enforcement authorities and school administrators in the solution of a crime. When such reports lead to arrests or recovery of contraband or stolen property, students may be eligible for a cash reward.

Structure
A board of directors made up of 5-15 students is established for the express purpose of promoting the program, fund raising and voting on rewards for solved crimes. All information regarding the criminal
reports to the police are strictly confidential; student board members DO NOT have access to this information. Success of the program can be attributed to its guaranteed anonymity.
