Head
Athletic Trainer: Andrew Hansell A.T.C. MEd
PA students may work as student athletic trainers.
They each obtain approximately 10-20 hours of experience per week. International
Baccalaureate students can use these hours as community service credit.
Anyone interested in becoming a student athletic trainer must achieve
their American Red Cross CPR and First Aid cards. Otherwise, the only
qualification is a desire to learn, work and be involved with PAHS athletics.
Students can learn a great deal on the job if they are willing. Like
any other activity, you get out of it, what you put into it. There are
not yet any classes that teach sports medicine skills at PAHS.
Under the current guidelines, not all sports and
activities are covered. All varsity football games are covered. The
following sports home games are covered as well: varsity and j.v. field
hockey, j.v. football, varsity girls and boys basketball, wrestling,
gymnastics, and varsity boys and girls soccer. The athletic training
staff is available to students on days of practice only from the hours
of 2:00 p.m. to approximately 6:00 p.m.
Injured students receive therapy
in the training room when necessary. Due to limitations with equipment,
some students require additional assistance from a physical therapy
or sports medicine center.
